Cifran OD is utilized for the treatment of bacterial infections. It is a synthetic broad-spectrum antibacterial agent intended for oral use. The active ingredient in Cifran OD is Ciprofloxacin. In addition to treating bacterial infections, it may also be employed to prevent or mitigate anthrax following exposure.
Adults typically receive an initial dosage of 250 mg taken twice daily. For more severe or mixed infections, the recommended dose for adults increases to 500 mg twice daily. Cifran OD is administered for a duration of 7 to 14 days, depending on the patient's health improvement. In cases of acute abscess, pneumonia, endocarditis, or central osteitis, the dosage is 750 mg twice daily. The overall treatment course with Cifran OD lasts between 4 to 6 weeks. For gonorrhea, a single dosage of 250 mg is prescribed. It is not recommended for children under the age of 15.
It is important to adhere to your dosing schedule strictly. If you miss a dose of Cifran OD, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your normal schedule. Do not take two doses at the same time.
Cifran OD should not be used if you are allergic to any components of Cifran OD or any other fluoroquinolone (such as levofloxacin), if you have recently received a live oral typhoid vaccine, or if you are taking cisapride or tizanidine. It is crucial to contact your doctor or healthcare provider immediately if any of these situations apply to you.
Common side effects are often gastrointestinal in nature, including nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach pain. Other less pronounced side effects may include dizziness, fatigue, sleep disturbances, nightmares, and rapid heartbeat. None of these side effects pose a significant threat to the patient. Generally, when following Ciprofloxacin's usage guidelines, side effects typically last no more than 2 days. If side effects persist, a consultation with a physician is recommended.
Symptoms should start to show improvement within 24 hours of beginning antibiotic treatment. Seek medical advice if there is no improvement or if symptoms worsen, or if you experience any of the following: severe diarrhea and vomiting that leads to dehydration, blood or green/yellow mucus in your stool accompanied by extreme abdominal pain, diarrhea associated with rashes, or high fever and headache coupled with diarrhea (especially in areas where malaria is prevalent).
